So how can you be prepared emotionally for a disaster, not sure if there is any way to truly be prepared but understanding how your react in stressful situations should give you an idea of how you might act when a disaster happens.
Start by finding techniques to be able to calm yourself and slow down so you can better assess what is going on. I have found that deep breathing helps me to calm down and think better so I can make better decisions.
Being with a group who is dealing with the same thing can be a big help. You can draw strength and support from each other. Who knows there may be a psychologist in the group.
If you are taking medications for emotion challenges make sure you always have some with you where ever you go. Disasters always don’t happen when you are at home so it would be a good idea to figure out how to have some of your medication with you at all times.
If you have children it will be important to be able to be calm and help them during a disaster. If they see you being calm and handling the situation it will help them feel safe and help them be able to better deal with what is going on. Try to always have games or toys with you in your car on when you are out. Having something a child enjoys or brings comfort will help them during a disaster.
So this is the list of some possible emotional trauma symptoms you might see during or after a disaster and some ideas on how to better deal with them.
